The Federal Election Commission only requires a few pieces of information to register most new political committees:

  1. Official Committee Name
  2. Committee Address
  3. Committee Email
  4. Treasurer Name, Address and Phone Number
  5. Bank Name and Address
  6. Committee Web Address recommended but not required

For banking purposes, the Committee must obtain a Federal Tax ID.

Although the forms may seem simple at first, it is important that they are completed accurately the first time. If the IRS Tax ID form is not correct, the Committee may be subject to additional requirements. Once a form is filed with the FEC, it can be amended, but the inaccurate information will always be available publicly.
